Finding the Blackjack Tables
At our place in Christchurch, blackjack players 20 and over can play daily. We run gaming tables, with blackjack available on the floor near the main entrance. Look out for signage that points the way, and you’ll spot groups of tables, easy for watching a round or two before you jump in.
Limits can move around with the week. Come by on a weekday afternoon and you’ll often find low minimums. Get here on a Friday or Saturday night and those limits often climb higher as the room fills up. Dealers rotate regularly to stay sharp. To get in, make sure you carry photo ID such as a New Zealand driver licence, valid passport, or a government-issued card showing your date of birth. Random security checks are part of the package.
Getting Started at the Table
Just head to any table with a few open seats. Each one has a placard showing minimum and max bets right by the dealer’s left arm. If there’s a game going, hang back until the hand ends, then you’re free to place chips in the betting circle.
Cash exchange is on the spot - place cash on the table and the dealer will exchange it for gaming chips. The dealer counts it, reads the total, then slides over your chips. If you need bigger change, the cashier desk is near the main entrance.
Our rules are standard. Dealer stands on soft 17. You can double down on any two cards you’re dealt. Split pairs up to three times - that’s four hands in one round if the cards go your way. If the dealer has an ace showing, insurance is available. It pays 2:1 if the dealer has blackjack.
Blackjack pays 3:2 - put $10 down, win with natural 21, and pick up $15 back plus your own stake. The game uses a shoe and players place wagers in marked betting areas or boxes. Christchurch Casino also offers Blackjack Plus in addition to standard blackjack. If you are unsure about the rules or have any questions during your visit, staff are available to help at any time.

The Floor and Facilities
The casino is a two-floor venue with 43,998 square feet of gaming space. Blackjack is located alongside other table games on the gaming floor. Here’s the lay of the land:
| Area | Location | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Blackjack Tables | Gaming Floor | 14 tables, different limits |
| Gaming Machines | Eastern Section | 500 machines |
| Poker Room | Northern Corner | 8 tables, tourneys |
| Cashier Cage | Main Entrance | Cash in/out, redemptions |
Restrooms are set at both end points, north and south. You’ll find ATMs by the entrance and next to the cashier - all major New Zealand cards accepted. Gaming’s non-smoking, but step outside through marked exits for a smoke break.
Two restaurants are up and running. Main dining offers lunch and dinner daily. If you need something quick, our café by the gaming machines stays open from 9 AM till midnight.
We keep bars available for you. Table-side orders are fine, and as long as you’re playing, non-alcoholic drinks are on the house.

Blackjack Gaming Options
Christchurch Casino operates 34 table games and offers blackjack for players 20 and over. Tables are located near the main entrance with clear signage for easy access.
Table limits can adjust throughout the week - weekday afternoons often offer lower minimums while Friday and Saturday nights often feature higher limits as the gaming floor fills up. Dealers rotate regularly to maintain sharp gameplay.
- Standard rules with dealer standing on soft 17
- Double down available on any two cards
- Split pairs up to three times for maximum four hands
- Insurance option when dealer shows ace
- Photo ID required for entry, such as a New Zealand driver licence, valid passport, or government-issued card showing date of birth
Cash exchange happens directly at tables with chips provided on the spot. The cashier desk near the main entrance handles larger transactions. Christchurch Casino offers Blackjack Plus in addition to standard blackjack.
How to Bet and Signal
When you’re ready, put your chips (higher values at the bottom) inside the betting circle before the dealer says “no more bets.” Keep chips tidy and inside the lines.
A hit is signaled by tapping the table behind the betting box. A horizontal cut-off motion over the cards means you want to stand. For doubling down, drop a second equal bet outside the circle - just one extra card comes your way.
Splitting pairs? Toss in another bet beside your first stack, and the dealer splits and deals fresh cards. You’ll play one hand, finish it, and move to the next. When you split aces, it’s one extra card each - no more hits. Players may double, split, or stand after the initial deal.
Taking insurance? That needs a bet worth half your original placed on the insurance line, but only do this if the dealer has an ace showing. If the dealer has blackjack, insurance pays 2:1; otherwise, you lose the insurance and only win if you’ve hit your own blackjack.
Etiquette at the Tables
Phones, bags, and drinks stay off the felt. Use a side shelf or stands nearby. During face-up games, don’t handle the cards - that’s the dealer’s job. Touch your chips only after the dealer’s pushed winnings to you.
Tipping’s up to you. If you’re in for a while, most players tip by putting a chip on the edge of their bet as a “dealer bet.” If that one wins, you both get paid. Or just hand chips over between hands.
You can chat at the table, sure - just skip strategy talk while hands are live. No need to offer tips to others unless someone asks. Dealers won’t give out advice, but will explain any rules if there’s confusion. Players can ask staff for assistance at any time.
Keeping Sessions in Check
Before you sit down, set yourself a budget and a time limit. If you’re part of the Players Club, you can get a quick summary of your session at our cashier cage. It’ll show you total buy-ins and payouts for your visit.
Breaks matter. Though our floor never truly closes, it pays to step out every hour or so to reset your head for better play.
We’ve got information and resources about responsible gaming at our membership desk and around the venue. Self-exclusion is available - temporary or permanent options can be set up by talking with the manager on duty.
Look for helpline contacts near exits and in the restrooms. The Problem Gambling Hotline is available at 0800 654 655 - help is there 24 hours, strictly confidential and free whenever you need it.
Opening Hours and Getting in Touch
Game floor is open around the clock. Table games (like blackjack) operate on a schedule that may vary by day. In the early mornings, expect fewer blackjack tables open.
Peak hours fill up fast: Friday and Saturday between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM, every table hums, and wait time could stretch to half an hour. Quieter weekday afternoons from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM get you a seat straight away at different limits.
Our address: 30 Victoria Street in Christchurch, with parking in a multilevel garage next door. Public buses stop less than 200 metres from our doors.
Got questions? Shoot us an email at [email protected] or stop by guest services near the main entrance. Anything about Players Club or your account, the membership desk sorts it out for you.
